Spirit of Ramadaan

Ramadaan in the UAE is a different experience all together. The atmosphere, while spiritual, is also somewhat festive.  While a time for cleansing, healing, extra prayer, reflecting and charity, it also is a time for enjoying the perks.  For most, working shorter hours, shopping longer hours, enjoying the ramadaan delights and embracing the peace that blankets the city, is in itself something to look forward to.

For photographers, it is an opportunity to capture the essence of  the Holy month. Exciting competitions are held in and around the city for photo enthusiasts to take on a ramadaan project. Be it about culture, prayer or even food, there is something for everyone.

Everyone has a vision and the best lens is the eye. Even as a beginner, capturing the essence of this month can bring inner peace, reflecting on what surrounds you. Take it all in and just enjoy.

Until next time...

Peace

Boat Yard Bliss

Went out to the boat yard this week. A very interesting but heart warming experience as you spend a day in the life of these men.

Welcomed by humble men working on building these sturdy boats in the hot (38 degree) sun. Their warm smiles tell a different story to their deep tans, wrinkled skin and frowns etched on their faces. Aged by long hours and hard labour. Its amazing tho to see how high their spirits are under their conditions.

Capturing their souls and telling their story through photography is what i aim to do. For these men, visitors and having people to talk to and share their experiences with is the highlight of their day and they are happy to strike a pose. I have, ofcourse, promised them a print on my next visit.

Here's a peak into their world...

A Visit to Ghost Village

Sounds haunted, ghostly, dark? On the contrary, actually.  It is a little village in ruins. an abandoned place where people once lived. I see it as most do - a photographers treasure. A haven for capturing what once was.

A deserted plain with dilapidated buildings, broken walls and doors, worn out shoes, rusted locks and heaps of rubble. Something i find very interesting.

There's a story left behind. A story deep within the ruins. A story of life, of peace and simplicity. Ghost Village also tells a tale of hardship and loneliness.

If you haven't ventured out on these plains yet, its about time! If you have, time for another visit. There's always something out there to shoot.
